I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned with thrillers. Their hook - the thing that draws me in to seeing them - is wondering how the hero, placed in an impossible situation, is going to get out of it. You consider and discard possible technological, socialogical, psycological solutions and wonder what rabbit the protagonist is going to pull out of their hat.

Sadly, the rabbit invariably seems to be running away from the impossible situation, then letting the villain put themself into a situation that the hero can best him, usually by beating him up in an implausible fight sequence.

Easier to script than ones where the hero wins under the initial terms of engagement, I'll grant you, but considerably less satisfying.
